OUR STORY

Jim and Cheryl Burkhardt

Down A River, Down A Beer (DARDAB) began in 2014 with Dr. Jim and Cheryl Burkhardt having a conversation over a beer! No surprise there!  They had hosted several small beer events in our community, and had attended several large beer festivals.  They thought maybe they should have a beer festival in Piqua.  “You know what we could do . . . “ is a common phrase to open the door to ideas.  DARDAB has grown to include 99 craft beers, river events, music, food and River Fire Rings.

DARDAB centers around the popularity of craft beer, bike trails, the Great Miami River and getting together with friends.  All the proceeds from DARDAB have gone to promoting our exceptional river and bike trail systems, and thus far we have contributed over $40,000 to organizations such as Protecting Our Water Ways (POWW), Edison State Community College and Upper Valley Career Center!

We have been very fortunate to have great support in our town in the form of sponsorships, volunteers and exciting river activities.  We look forward to seeing you at DARDAB this year.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE

DARDAB proceeds support efforts to clean debris and litter from the Great Miami River, as well as initiatives to remove invasive honeysuckle along the riverbank to open and enhance river views. Funds have also been used to purchase kayaks for Edison State Community College and Upper Valley Career Center, helping to support hands-on learning in Environmental Science programs. The Great Miami River is a valuable yet underutilized natural resource, and this event aims to showcase its beauty while promoting its proper care and maintenance. We are grateful to our past attendees for their continued support and invite you to join us again this year. We look forward to seeing you at DARDAB on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 5:30–9:00 PM at 919 South Main Street, Piqua, Ohio.
